Jackson Hole and Grand Teton National Park

I cannot imagine a better day to begin our actual sabbatical travel.

My morning began on the back porch of Bobbi and Doug Colonel’s cabin in Victor, Idaho.

The sun is rising over the Teton Range and the water you can barely see is a beaver pond.

After breakfast we headed back across Teton Pass to visit the town of Jackson which lies in the valley or as the early trappers called it Hole between the Teton and Gros Ventre mountains.

Here we are at the top of Teton Pass.

Each fall Elk move down from their summer feeding grounds higher up in the mountains down into Jackson Hole.

Each winter the male Elk shed their antlers and people collect them and make things with them. Like gigantic antler arches…

Tommy found his first souvenir…

After lunch we took the chair lift at Snow King Resort up the mountain.

IMG_5552The wildflowers were blooming.

IMG_5542Benny even discovered Tibetan prayer flags.

IMG_5583The highlight of our day, however, was yet to come, a float trip down the Snake river with our friends from Solitude Float Trips.

Here we are receiving a few last minute instructions from our fabulous guide Andy.

And into the river we go.

This was our first wildlife experience and we weren’t disappointed.  We saw beaver, bald eagles…

…and even…

…a moose!

Wow, what a blessed day.
